Link popularity can also be said as a measure of the quality and quantity of other web sites that are linking to a specific site on the World Wide Web.Link popularity is considered to be important because it is a key factor used by search engines which determines a website's position obtained during search results. In general a website having many inbound links will be placed at a higher rank than a similar site having fewer links. Some of the search engines would require at least one or more links linking to a website for indexing, otherwise the site is not indexed.The philosophy behind link popularity is that important and quality websites will attract many links to its site. Generally Content-poor sites will have the difficulty of obtaining any links. An inbound link coming from a major directory is of more weightage than an inbound link from a vague personal home page. So, link popularity depends on the quality of incoming links and not by the number of links in a website.
