Default Is SEO worth learning?

From what I hear, it's not a guarantee that you'll get more traffic to your site. So is it worth studying/learning this stuff?

SEO is the backbone of websites. It is not worth learning if you have money to use on advertisement or you have very great content for people to link to you.

Nothing is guaranteed, but without it I can give you one guarantee that you won't generate any sales online. What you can do is increase the potential for your site to generate more traffic over time. (the lottery isn't a guarantee but I still try it )

Marketing is necessary for any business to be profitable. For websites most people/companies focus on building an online presence. Some also use offline advertising to promote their online website.

There are two ways to market your website, you either hire someone to do it or you do it yourself. If you don't have the cash to hire someone then learning SEO is a must. Remember that SEO falls under SEM (Search Engine Marketing) which includes PPC (Pay Per Click). SEM is the global term to get people to visit your site via search engines.

Default Brief SEO explanation

With thousands of amazing websites flooding the internet, it is possible to see why so many are left to fend for themselves. Nonetheless, these pages are filled with useful information, great pictures, and an even better online community. So why are they struggling so much? Unfortunately, no matter how great the content may be, these sites will rarely be seen unless search engine optimization is on the webmaster's mind.

Search Engine Optimization, also known as SEO, is aimed at improving web site rankings within a particular search engine. These rankings not only make a huge impact on daily traffic, but it also allows for webmasters forum to generate potential revenue. This money could come from a pay per click program like Adsense or an affiliate where the owner gets a percentage on the amount of items they sell.

One of the first steps to becoming a big player in the website industry is to add your site to every directory you can find. Big time players like Google, Yahoo, and MSN are the most crucial engines to target. However, big names like these can be hard to work with. With only updates every few months, it is difficult to get your website on the top pages. Therefore, it is smart to target every directory you can, especially if it is considered popular. Other big players include DMOZ; a directory that has a lot of staying power when it comes to getting a great rank.

After adding your site to the engines, it is crucial to start developing a relationship with fellow website owners. In order for you to get a lot of traffic to your site, you need to link exchange forum with similar sites. For instance, if you have a fashion page, it would be wise to find similar websites, blogs, and forums with the same opinions. Already popular websites will not only help you get an amazing backlinks, but they can also drive more interested visitors to your site. If you are stuck and do not know of any fellow websites, it is necessary to type in your subject on Google or any other search engine. E-mail the top results and keep your fingers crossed that someone will want to help you out. The more quality back links you have, the greater page rank you will get.

Another great way to get back links is to visit specific SEO forums. This is a great place to connect with others and they will already be interested in what you have to offer. However, it is important to not spam any of these message boards. Members hate obvious advertisements and want you there because you care to participate. Developing honest relationships with these people will keep them loyal visitors. Web rings are also a great idea if you need more links. There are specific web rings which provide a list of websites for one topic.

Writing articles is also a very effective way to get to the top of the page ranks. For example, if you were designing a fashion website, it would be important to write a few articles discussing the trends of the summer and perhaps what designers the latest celebrities are wearing. After writing these masterpieces, you can send them to a million different free article submission directories. It is important to remember to add your website link to these articles, for they will be an automatic back link every time one of your websites gets accepted. A great place to submit these works are at a prominent and traffic driven website called Digg.com

If all of these ideas fail and you are still left frustrated, there is one more unique idea to try. If you have read someone else’s e-book or have tried a friend's online product, you could suggest writing a testimonial for their website. This will not only get them a great reputation with their clients, but you also will be driving more traffic to your site and adding one more back link!

With the internet steadily growing, it is going to become even more difficult to be recognized as time goes on. However, there are many tips that a webmaster can follow to try and win over the search engines. One must realize that getting a high page rank can take a long time, but as long as you are patient, the potential for a great website is endless. This is where many sites slip between the cracks, as most webmasters do not have the patience or the time to devote to such a hurdle. Fortunately, this may also boost your website!

If you don't have a monster budget to advertise directly like Hulu on TV then small/mid-sized sites need SEO to get targeted quality traffic to support their online business.
