FAQ

We are wishing to sell the entire phpDomain codebase together with the website, customer base and domains (phpdomain.net and phpdomain.org).

*What is phpDomain?
--------------------

phpDomain is a feature-packed, php-based Tucows OpenSRS domain name reseller software product.

It offers advanced front end functionality, comprehensive payment gateway support and ease of installation, configuration, administration and use not found in the base OpenSRS client.

* How much are we asking for the business?
-----------------
- We are now considering all serious offers around the $9,500 mark.

*Why are we selling?
---------------------

While this has been a profitable project, we are simply looking to concentrate on our core hosting business, as that has been rapidly growing.

The software had originally been developed for use on our own sites, so this has been quite a detour for us in selling the software, and there is a definite need for us to focus our available resources on our core business. The site has been active since late 2002 and very little promotion has been carried out in recent months.

*Includes .au support

As well as the major TLD's, phpDomain software now includes support for AUSRegistry for .au domain names through the EPP protocol. The protocol is apparently being adapted by a number of other registrars, and should be fairly simple to adapt for those registries

*Included with sale:

- All rights to the phpDomain code (excellent intellectual property). The base software and billing gatewarys are licensed under LGPL, with the bulk, billing and a number of advanced features including .au registy support only available under a restricted commercial license to buyers. As the new owner you would be able to change the licensing as you see fit.

- There is excellent potential for new sales, but also for providing existing customers new versions of the software or other related services or products, including custom design work.

- Website design, content, member lists and domains - phpdomain.net / phpdomain.org. The site was professionally designed and all rights will be transferred over to the new owner.

- License to use the members area software that allows for sale of the phpDomain software - license transferrable upon resale

This sale is a great opportunity for someone who already sells pre-built OpenSRS sites, or wants to get into the domain name reseller business, or to service a very niche market with little retail competition and excellent prospects for expanding the functionality of the software.

Basic demographics
------------------

There are currently over 1300 active accounts in our members database (that is users with confirmed/ valid email addresses) who have downloaded or have purchased the software since it was launched.

Of the 1300+ active accounts, just over 100 are paid buyers, with 26 of those having purchased update licenses. The update licenses are no longer current as we have not developed the software further. This leaves plenty of scope for the new owner to promote full licenses to the current registered member base who haven't purchased as yet and to also reintroduce the update license aspect.

The last 5 months have been slower months as we had wound back promotion to focus on our core business - things were just getting too busy.

Expenses
--------

- Currently, the amount of time being spent on supporting phpDomain (sales, config enquiries etc.) amount to around 4-5 hours each month

- Hosting expenses are under $20 per month.

We would be happy to put the buyer in touch with the programmer who has developed the software. He is a skilled developer and has expressed an interest in working further with/supporting phpDomain if the opportunity should arise.
